Cooking in sunny Florida

Yesterday, it was just a BEE-A-UUUUU-TEEE-FUL day!!

I know....I can hear you over there cursing at me. I've seen the weather reports...and your blogging reports. Most of you had your snowstorm (that you haven't gotten all winter!) or you've been cold and rainy....but can I tell you a little secret???

I would LOVE to have a rainy day...or some snow to play in...key word. PLAY. Not shovel. Not Drive. Not deal with on a day to day basis...just play.

My mom just proved my point even more the other day. When I got the picture she texted me. (the word texted is still not a real word according to spell checker...really?? Catch up with the times! lol).

She lives in the southwest corner of Colorado...mountains. She was driving down her road when she started spinning in donuts. She spun into a gate, which went through her windshield, and knocked out her dash and passenger window. THANKFULLY she's ok, and  she wasn't driving on the mountainside yet....but that just proves why I don't want to live in the snow. I get into enough car accidents as it is (none of which have been my fault. I Girl Scout promise.)

2012-01-179508.24.31.jpg
yeah...not a phone call I want to get...I fear those calls with my girls when they start driving!
All of you who live in the snow...I pray for your safety!!

Anyway, since I don't have a rainy day (seriously..since like the beginning of December), the girls and I went to the beach (while hubsters did more washer/dryer shopping...it's just so much easier without kids tagging along!) p.s....we FINALLY ordered our washer/dryer...won't be here for another week, so we had to put back together the old one and listen to it "off balance" every time I do a load of wash....ugh! BUT relief IS coming! lol

It was DEFinetly a "Toes in the Sand" kind of day....anyone know  who sings that song??

My HAPPY place!!

This is what I would have LOVED to have been doing....but no one to watch the kiddos :( Oh well, sitting on the beach was great too!
Wanna take a guess for today's weather??? I'm going to go with hot and sunny..sigh.

And here was yesterday's breakfast!! Mini cinnamon rolls...crescent roll style. Yes, I have an addiction to crescent rolls - haha. They are SO versatile!!

-one package of crescent rolls
-melted butter (to brush on the dough)
-cinnamon and brown sugar (as much or little as you want!)

To get the directions (SUPER easy!!), you can go {HERE}, or I've copied and pasted them here for you :)

Lay half the dough next to each other, and pinch the seams together.
Flip and repeat.

Next take a rolling pin and roll the dough into a square about 1/4″ thick.

Brush on 1 Tablespoon butter,

sprinkle with cinnamon,

and add a dusting of brown sugar.
DSC_0288
Roll the dough into one big log, and cut into 8 even slices.

PS you can use as much cinnamon and brown sugar in these rolls as you want. This is a total non-recipe recipe!
DSC_0307
Place the rolls into a non-stick sprayed mini muffin tin and bake for 8-10 minutes, or until golden brown.
As the minis bake, mix up a quick icing made with maple syrup, powdered sugar, and a little bit of milk. While the cinnamon rolls were still warm, drizzle a teaspoon or two of the icing on top of each one.

For the maple icing:

1 teaspoon maple syrup
1 Tablespoon skim milk
3/4 cup powdered sugar
DROOL…

Ok.....so, there you go...now you can go make your Sunday morning breakfast :)

Hope you don't mind..no teaching on this post.  Well, that's a lie. I taught you how to make mini cinnamon rolls :)
Today I have a few errands to get done...so many crafting, organizing, and cooking ideas to get going today!! Shall I post about them when I'm finished??? :)

{posting about nonteachery things} Sure, why not!?!? I enjoy reading all things.

What part of Florida are you from? East or west side?

We had a gorgeous day yesterday, too. However, I was stuck inside working on report cards. We have a new AP and she wants our comments to be crazy long and detailed so it is taking me forever to get them completed!

I am also enjoying this beautiful Florida weather! Isn't this the whole reason we live here? (beautiful beach days in the winter!) Your cinnamon rolls looks great I'll have to try that!

Sun and the Beach? So jealous! I haven't see the beautiful beach sand since I visited my sister in Hawaii this summer. Sigh.

Love the mini cinnamon rolls. I have an addiction to crescent rolls too. My boyfriend always laughs when he opens the bottom drawer in the fridge because its always filled with crescent rolls.

The beach looks so nice! I love the beach. My husband wants to move closer to the beach but I don't know if I could move that far away from my parents. You are such a good mommy! I bet the girls loved their yummy breakfast!

Wow - I can't imagine going to the beach right now and I live in CA. It's just really cold here right now. No rain today but it's coming back tomorrow. Waaaaah to the inside SCHOOL recess.
I want one of those cinnamon rolls now, please. :) It would be lovely if I could come over for one and a cup of coffee! :)

And I was excited that it's going from 15 degrees to the upper 30s tomorrow!! I could just look at your photos of the beach all day. That'll be me in about...5 months. Though the snow is just beautiful right now!

Your recipe looks delicious!! Thanks for sharing it :)

As for posting non-teachery things, I say go for it, it's your blog :) There are some days I don't post teachery things :) Teachery, love that word... lol

We just have rain. No sun. *sigh* In fact there was flooding in lots of Oregon, but my town was safe :)

I made those last week! There were so yummy. Except I forgot there was a frosting recipe... I'm going to have to make them again and follow all the directions next time. :)

What a coincidence! I made almost the exact same recipe on Saturday! Only my icing was made with 1/4 cup of FF cool whip, 3 TBLS. of FF cream cheese, and 1 TBLS. of splenda. I made the recipe you posed yesterday for breakfast this morning. It was a hit! I did add some hash browns and some green chili's too (we like to spice things up a little here in New Mexico). Thanks for posting your recipes!

Ok. So I hate you just a little bit right now, only because I was really excited that it got up to 38 degrees ;)
BTW: Zack Brown Band sings "Toes." Love them!!!
