First Few Days of the Year {Freebies!}

So, I can't really call this the first week of school, because it was only 3 days. BUT, it was technically. Last year was a full week for the first week. I really liked that because then I could really do some fun "first week" activities. This year, I'm taking up another week for it...Maybe. I don't know. I'll figure it out on Sunday, I guess.

Anyway, so here are some things we did this "week."

I read the book The Crayon Box that Talked.

And then we made our own little unique crayons.

It just completes my hallway now!

Click {HERE} to get the template for the crayons - you can add in text boxes to type in their names, or you can print them up and write in their names!

We also wrote our FIRST class book!  I happen to have a binding machine that I've gotten through Donor's Choose, so I like to bind our class books. But if you don't have one, then you can just hole punch the side and tie it together with ribbon or yarn.

You can download this freebie {HERE}.

We talked about some "problems" that come up in the classroom, and what we could do to solve it. (Sorry about the handwriting... I have GOT to get better at that! I mean, I'm supposed to be teaching my 1st graders how to write correctly, aren't I??) This comes from {Haley's First Day in First Grade} pack.

We also started working on our {Memory Books}. Since i don't have their books made and bound yet, I keep their pages in folders right now.  I'm hoping to get a parent volunteer in to help make their books next week.

If you want to see what they're going to end up like, you can read {THIS} post.

I also started my Differentiated Spelling "placement tests" to find everyone's starting point.

I have everyone's folder ready, but we're still finding everyone's spots, so probably another week or so. You can read more about this on {THIS} post.

Another one of my favorite books to read during this week is Chyrsanthemum.

This year, I tied to some of {Deanna's Name activities}.

We've been working all week to learn our new friends' names, so this was a perfect addition.

Then we did the rainbow names.

So cute hanging in our window!

To go along with our names, we did our Jerseys too! We use our numbers are SO many ways.

Another one of my favorite things to do with Keven Henkes is Wemberly Worried.

You can download the freebie {HERE}.

This year, we did Elmer.  I just love Elmer.  So cute.

We broke out the water colors on day 2! Yes. Yes, we did. And it went GREAT! Well, great as in no one spilled or needed a lesson on HOW to watercolor paint. I might need to allow for some more practice on actually painting though. ha!

They turned out super cute!

This one might be my favorite though..haha. So totally perfectly Elmer...

We weren't ALL work. We did get to play, too...some Play-Doh was involved...and I busted out the Fun Friday games. It was nice seeing them be kids. Just playing and talking and being 5, 6, and 7 years old. I mean, really.

They wanted to look through my books and read our reading buddies too. Sure! Go ahead!

And today I walked out of my room, finishing up my first week of my 13th year.

Man, I love my job!! (most of the time - ha!)

If you want to see more of my room, you can check out {THIS} post.

Here are some of the packs I mentioned in the post.

Hi Jen. I came across your name on another old blog where a lady was giving away a giant bundle of thinking maps. I actually did the training of trainers for TM 2 years ago but had to leave it all when I transferred schools. I saw that you probably downloaded this successfully before it was taken down. Any chance you would send them to me? I would Love To have them and know how to use them. I would be forever grateful!
