Wish List Wednesday - Math with a Deck of Cards!

For this Wish List Wednesday, it's one of my favorite packs (well, actually TWO of my favorite packs!);
Math with a Deck of Cards

I seriously use cards for EVERYTHING math related. I don't think a math concept that goes by without us busting out the math cards.

Here are some activities that we've used them for...

I had more pictures, but with the great computer crash of October 2014, I lost them :( boo! But as you can see, I use them in centers, small group teaching, partner activities, and fast finishers!

If you want to see how I keep them all organized, check out {THIS} post. I'm normally not a binder girl, but for certain things, I am... and this is one of those things!

I have one for 1st Grade and one for 2nd grade and up!

The hardest is 2 digit addition and subtraction. Its so hard for so many kiddos!

Subtraction with regrouping is always a challenge. We use base ten blocks to help understand the concept , but it is still often a struggle.

I struggle with teaching subtraction with regrouping. It's a hard concept for my Firsties.

I struggle with teaching teen numbers (composing and decomposing 11-19). Most of my kindergartners have a hard time with this.

I'd like to stab my eye with a dull pencil when second graders subtract the top number from the bottom one!

Two of the hardest skills for my students are decomposing leading to a 10 and regrouping with double digit addition and subtraction.

I think the hardest skill for my kiddos is simple math facts! So many of them still use their fingers to add or subtract.

I think one of the hardest skills for my students is rounding.

I think when we get to place value, my kiddos have a hard time "seeing" it. The double digits are really hard for them. Thanks for giveaway! Wendy 1stgradefireworks

I struggle with teaching elapsed time...such a hard concept for some kiddos to grasp!

Before I became a teacher I was one of those people who said they couldn't do math. I struggle across the board. My biggest challenge has been in believing in myself as a teacher and portraying to my students that everyone can do math and not dragging my old misconceptions with me.

One of the most challenging math skills my second graders struggled with was 2-digit subtraction with regrouping. Base ten blocks helped - but when we used dimes and pennies - there were lots of, 'Ah ha!' moments. :)
Thanks so much for hosting the Link Up!

Definitely 2 digit subtraction with regrouping! I also love using cards for math. Anything to make it fun!

Our math curriculum teaches doubles, which my firsties love and catch on to quickly. But it later teaches doubles plus one and that throws them for a loop! It is so hard for me to teach that concept to them.

Getting the kiddos to remember to "carry the ten" when doing double digit addition.

I still struggle with teaching basic fact fluency. There are so many options available, which I find overwhelming. I have yet to find the one option that just "clicks" for most of my 2nd graders. Also, they seem to either get it, or they don't. It's hard when most kids are moving on to more advanced skills, and you still have a few who are stuck on basic facts.

Teaching decomposing with a ten-frame is one of the hardest things for me to teach. The concept can be difficult to explain.

My students have the hardest time with a deep understandig of place value. With most worksheets, etc. they simply learn to write numbers from a certain column without understanding how much it is worth.
