Working with Money - Part 2!

AND, I wanted to let you know that I have made my "Part 2" of my money pack -this one works with coins AND Dollars. I'm super excited to get my kids working with it!

President's Day Visual Plans

TECHNICALLY, I could have waited to do these plans until Monday, BUT, unlike most of y'all, I actually have to go to work on Monday. Boo. The kids have off, but we have to go for professional development day. Double boo.

So, now I have to cram everything into 4 days....and it's a BIG THEME week.

Triple boo.

BUT, anyway - here are my visual plans for this week - LOTS of good stuff...and some freebies too!

I'm not quite sure what my new "skill" is for my intervention kids. I just tested them (PSI'd them) and they graduated from short vowels - yay!! (I took about 5 weeks to do the short vowels - omgosh...lol). and 2/3 of them passed the CVC skill and the blends skill - but they are on the cvcE skill. So I'm thinking that's that I'll be doing, but I'm not sure - so I didn't put in my plans for my intervention group just yet. 

How perfect is it that we're still working with money and it's Presidents' Day!?!

We'll be doing the book from my Learning with Money: Coins pack. It's perfect because it talks about presidents AND symbols! woo!

One of my favorite packs I have for next week is from DeAnne - this pack is great! Lots of activities about U.S. symbols and and actual facts about presidents and symbols. It's great! Y'all should definitely check it out! (HERE) See? I hate doing research, so I LOVE when I can find packs that give me what I need.

Another one of my favorite packs is from Stephanie - COMPLETELY different from DeAnnes - has all kinds of activities. I'm going to be using some of her activities throughout, in addition to her measuring Abe activity in my math centers. Check hers out HERE

Kelley has some awesome crafts in her pack, so I'll be sticking those in there whenever and WHERE ever I can. 

And in other news.... since I knew I wasn't worried about making anything for Pres-Day week, I decided I was going to start updating my stuff from last March. Well, it was my first month of creating and selling - my, oh, my, how much I've learned!

SO.... 

you saw how I have updated and reactivated my Fish Math (formerly, Math with One Fish, Two Fish, but still the same skills)

And I also updated my St. Patrick's Day Scrambled Sentences

AND my Pot O'Gold Literacy Centers

I also added two more centers to this pack, so make sure you download the revised version if you've already purchased this pack.

Next one is the Math centers, and then I can update the bundle too. I'll let you know when I finish those - hopefully by the end of this week.

For Valentine's Day, I tell my hubs to keep his money for the flowers (although I do love me some tulips! But here in FL, it's hard to have them :-/ boo!) 

BUT, when I was at my meeting (yes, we had an RTI meeting on Vday, which was also the day interims went out - boo!), I came back and found THESE yummy delights on my desk - mmmm...

She LOVES chasing lizards....well, she just loves being outside. But what makes this picture so perfect is not only is it her catching lizards - but with a Wild Child shirt on. perfect!

Anyway, let me show you what we've been doing -

This post is a hodgepodge of Penguins, writing, cause and effect, money, and LOTS of pictures!!

Ok.

We're still working on our Penguin Non-Fiction book - 

We took our planning pages to write the sloppy copy

I conferenced with them after each section, 

then they started their neat copy to using their sloppy copy...

We also started reading the Snowmen at... series of books.

I'm using some activities out of Lori's pack - love it!

And for our imitation sentences this week, we've been working on linking verbs and cause and effect.

SO, I turned it into a little mini-assessment of cause and effect on the book...

and there were a few different answers they could have given me... just as long as they made since, right?!

Speaking of Cause and Effect...

One of my favorite things I do for this is my "Find a Friend" game....

I wrote a cause on one strip and an effect on the other - and they had to silently find their match.

NO TALKING!!!

For ONCE this week, PLEASE don't talk!! lol

So I went for a bike ride....

Catching Up on Penguins and Snowman Visual Plans!

Before I get started with the visual plans for the week, let me catch you up on last week's fun!

Well, we got a present in the mail from our pen pals from Japan!!

With the letters that we always get, they sent a present!!

You don't even KNOW how hard it was for me to wait for my kids to come back from activity before I opened it - ha!! It was so cool!! They sent a book about Tokyo friends, and as you read the book, you can see the English word, the Japanese word, AND their symbol for it - so cool!!

SOOOO....

Last week was FILLED with some serious PENGUIN fun!!

We read TONS of books - 

  

We filled out our All About Penguins sheet as we learned about them throughout the week

We did a LOT of compare and contrast - this is just ONE of the venn-diagrams that we did.

 

THEN, for their reading test for the week, they had to compare and contrast Tacky the Penguin, to a real penguin, giving at least two way they are similar and different.

For writing, we've started our planning sheet for our nonfiction book that's in my penguin pack

They are super excited to start that!!

AND, we did one of the things that they LOVE doing the most - blubber!!

I mean, LOOK at this face - she's so happy about it! lol 

They were putting their hands in 34 degree water....without the blubbler glove

And one in the blubber glove- 

How do you make a blubber glove?? You need 2 gallon bags, and a canister of shortening. and voila! You have a blubbler glove!

My tip from me to you??? TAKE OFF YOUR RINGS when you're scooping the shortening into the bag - haaha!

Here's one of my fave teammates trying it out - what a good sport! 

This is also where I introduced temperature - being able to read a thermometer

Another favorite thing they did was learn how to waddle like a penguin. hehehe

The put a nerf football in their legs, and tried to waddle - it was so funny!

And they did their own diagram - with my guided drawing in the pack to help them.

So - that was the penguin stuff - whew!!

And we started our states of matter books too - this week we'll be finishing them up.

 This week's stories are the Snowmen stories...

I'm going to use activities from Lori’s “Snowmen at” pack throughout the week in whole group and centers - since we're doing the Snowmen at Night and Snowmen All Year books this week.

Before I forget - one of the new things I found on TpT is Lisa's seasonal reading graphic organizers - I'm officially OBSESSED!! I'm doing her winter ones this week in my centers - and I can't wait for the next's month's set - every month! ha!

Which is actually great timing because we're doing cause and effect, so I wanted a little writing activity that showed a cause and effect that went with our story - click the pic to download.

which is why I'm using Miss T's Melted Snowman pack - it's perfect for cause and effect AND states of matter!! woop woop! hitting so many birds with only one stone!

It's actually the spelling center I'm doing this week.

last week we already did one of the activities in the pack.

I wanted to see if they actually knew the coins, so I made them all the same size, so they couldn't just see the smallest  one - they had to know which person or "thing" was on it.
