Thanksgiving, adding tens, and Cracker Jacks!

It was another 4 day week last week (I swear, it's so hard to get it all done in 4 days!) and we were movin' and groovin' all day, every day!

Here's a little bit of what we were doing.... You saw my post earlier in the week about our Thanksgiving centers that we had started.

Adding tens centers....

Turkey Time math centers (check out the post about how we used my Turkey Time literacy centers)

We've been busy learning about words that have a final /k/ and /ch/ sounds....

One of my favorite things we did last week is a writing activity from my Charlotte's Web pack. I bought some Cracker Jacks and we did some sensory writing....can you believe that EVERY year most of my kids have NEVER had Cracker Jacks?? It's one of those nostalgic things from my childhood that I REFUSE to let die with the times...lol

and of course I get all excited whenever I see the prize still...lol!

we looked....

we smelled...

we did all the senses and the wrote it all out in a paragraph!

AND we did our FINAL pumpkin plant observations.....only about 1/2 of our plants grew. Mine did NOT grow, thank GOODNESS....I think that made the kids whose plant didn't grow feel better....lol.

If you want to check out any of the packs I mentioned, here they are

Working With Charlotte on the Farm

Sorry friends....I don't have a guided reading activity for you today.

A) It was career day, so we were running around like a crazy people all day!
B) I left my guided reading activities folder at school, which has all my things to do  - oops!

BUT, please go check out the linky - some great things have been linked up!

This week, we've been intermixing our Science, Reading, and Math
with Charlotte's Web and farm animals. I WISH I had another week to work on the Farm theme, BUT I have to move on!!
(next is my favorite - Fall and Apples - then Spiders, Bats, Halloween - oh my!)
(AND...I'm working on my Spider unit right now...)

It started off as me using Bookflix.

I really like this site because it pairs a fiction and non-fiction book together, so you can do both genres!

(it's a paid-for website...ask your Media Specialist - that's who bought it for our school! And I LOVE IT!)

So I had them "watch" the story, "Let's Visit a Dairy Farm."

and that's what prompted this whole thing....

First....We did a sequencing activity with how to get milk from a cow to the table....
(it explains it in the book)

They did a flow chart, and then put the flow chart into word.

I needed a cute craft to go with it, so I snagged Reagan's Farm animal crafts - so cute!
p.s...I didn't have my kids use tracers. I made one (from the tracers - haha!) and let them just look at it as a guide and they came out SOOOOO cute!!!

And they did some more labeling with caption writing.

They're FINALLY starting to get the whole caption thing...the caption has to tell about the PICTURE...not something random..lol.  It really is a hard concept.

But they did one for a rooster too, because we've also been discussing rooster/hens (which, by the way, if you didn't know...a chicken is either a rooster or a hen... a chicken is not something different...lol. I didn't know that until my parents had their own chicken coop...)

THEN, they compared and contrasted cows and chickens...using the CORRECT terms, of course.

And of course, they had to put the venn diagram into writing.

EVERYTHING is tied to writing...didn't you know??

And for math, we've started our subtraction unit/topic/whatever...

so, I decided to tie in Charlotte's Web (which is our read aloud)...

The students flipped over 2 cards and had to write their own subtraction sentence on their write boards.

THEN, after I approved their math story, they got to write their problem on a pig (Wilbur) and they wrote their math problem on the blue ribbon - it's so cute!

Darned if I don't have a picture - boo! I'll have to get one on Monday.

So anyway...there are some activities from my pack...
I don't have too many pictures because things were just sooooo busy this week...

BUT we did do a lot more that what you see here...

Included:
Cow activities: tree map, labeling with caption activity, sequencing chart with book suggestions and writing extension.
Chicken activities: tree map, labeling with caption activity for both a hen/chicken and a rooster
Compare and Contrast cow and chicken with writing extension
Living vs. Nonliving center cards as well as student product
Five sentence scrambles
sight word activity with newspaper or magazine
Favorite Character: graphing labels, math extension, and writing extension

Farm, Fall, Winners, and Linky!

Hey friends!!

WHEW!

What a day! I must say that my class is doing SOOO much better than they were in the beginning. I thought I was going to have to retire early. No joke.
But, they have been molded into wonderful little 2nd graders.
But it was the workshop that I presented at after work that got me - it was only supposed to be 15 minutes, but lasted about 45.

oh well...at least I was helping those who wanted and needed the help, right?

AND

I am ALMOST finished with my class's FAIR testing.

Seriously. 25 days into school and I'm STILL testing them!
I would REALLY like to start my small groups!

Although, I DID see one of my groups today - we did some fun phonics stuff.

They are my lowest group.
My sweeties.

I think they are my favorites, actually.
We don't have favorites, of course.

I forgot to take pictures though.

OOPS!

My bad...and that's not very good for my Guided Reading linky - is it? lol

I will say, that my kids are having so much fun with my On the Farm with Charlotte and Friends pack!

no - it's not up on TpT/TN yet...still adding/changing/fixing.
In fact, just added something this morning to it before the kids walked in - ha!

But I love it! This actually just started out as just an activity after watching a non-fiction book on Bookflix about how we get milk from cows....and it has just spiraled into this! lol LOVE when that happens.
My kids are loving this theme- and no, we don't live in the country...I have never done a farm theme, and I don't know what prompted me to do one this time, but I'm sure glad I did!

AND...

when I'm finished with my Charlotte's Web/Farm unit, I will be moving into my FALL theme!

Although, it's silly. I live in Central (east coast) Florida - we don't HAVE Fall.

It's so hard to teach about the seasons here.

BUT, for the next few months, I am all set on some great centers!

It's not just for Fall..

She's got Fall, Halloween, and Thanksgiving ready to go in there!

I want to show you SOME pictures...because if I'd show you EVERYTHING in here, this would be the longest post in history...and it's already pretty long...ha!

For math she has four centers...

Here is the place value one - numbers four different ways!

And there are 3 different sets of sentence scrambles...

and each set has 8 sentences for the kids to unscramble...

And there are rhyming centers, 3 different sets....

And ABC order...3 different sets...

And Grammar sorts - FOUR different sets...

Whew! It's 147 pages of centers!

Before I go...

The THREE Random winners for my addition strategies pack are....

Meaghan McLaughlin

And I love anything USA - Psych, White Collar, Covert Affairs..etc...
