Mermaids, Birthdays, and A.R.

We've had a busy, busy few days!!

Yesterday, we had birthday party to go to...it was Little Mermaid themed.






We LOVE The Little Mermaid!!

It was my FAVorite growing up.

eh...who am I kidding? It's STILL my fave...lol. I can sing all the songs, and say all the words.

This girl is a swimmin' fool!!

Doesn't matter what the body of water is  - beach, pool, bathtub, puddle...lol.

She's a happy girl in the water....just like her mama!

The birthday host gave goggles to everyone who came as a "thank you" gift...

A LOVED them...lol

She wore them for the rest of the day...



hahahaha!!!

Sorry, I just HAD to show you....

but that brings me to a question I've had for a while.

Why has it become customary that we, as birthday party hosts, have to give out "thank you" gifts to the guests?
I mean, we spend all this money on the food, decorations, possibly a rental of some sort, and all kinds of other things - I just don't get it.
Don't we give out thank you cards??
Can someone let me in on this secret? I mean, for our thank you gifts, it's usually a craft that the kids do while they are at our parties...I mean, that's good, right??

Anyway, back on track....

Then we went up to St. Augustine for a bit - remember??

I went to Flagler College up there....BEAUTIFUL college.

I still have friends up there...

One of my friends was having a birthday party.

So we went, but we also visited some other friends...

We had lunch at the place I worked while going to school up there -


And A got to play with some of her friends...ok, a LOT of her friends...and swim in the pool - AGAIN..

Last Monday, Tara posted her Made it Monday craft she did...and they were birthday tags, owl themed.
So SUPER cute!!
But I'm not doing an Owl theme...

I'm doing the beach theme...
So I decided to make my own :)

Like the circles??? I got all techy with my hub's Corel Draw program...I feel all special now..lol

And here are the surfboard tags.

What do you do with them??

Well, you can attach them to whatever you get for the kids, but I was going to hole punch each end of the surfboard and then "thread" a silly straw or pencil through both holes...and you can do the same with the circles.

I FINALLY got around to making my pirate A.R. theme pack into a beach/surfing theme :)

I absolutely LOVE it!!!

There are surfer bookmarks with A.R. levels, genre and series graphs, reading logs and A.R. quiz logs, bulletin board pieces so they can "surf" to each island as they grow in A.R. points, monthly goal sheets and a certificate if/when they reach that month's goal, a poster for skill focus during reading (with suggestions), and a letter to the parents.

If you would like a different theme, I am open to suggestions!!
Also, I know some of you do reading counts, and I was trying to make this fit for that as well, but I don't know enough. If you are someone who wants this set made for Reading Counts, please let me know and we can work it out!

Finally! Laura Numeroff Unit

Oh my land!!

I'm FINALLY finished AND uploaded...You guys seriously have no idea how long it's taken me to upload this!!! I think it's taking longer to upload than it did to make them!!!

Spring Time Centers with a Side of Pancakes!

WHEW!!

Finally finished my Spring Centers.

I didn't do big Easter Theme...although I do a few Easter things in my room, it's not one of my big holidays (as the bunny and baskets full of candy go....there IS a reason to celebrate though...)- but I LOVE Spring!! Just look at all the pretty colors!! :)

There are TEN different centers that you can use all Spring Season long!!

Literacy Centers include:

-How to Make and Easter Egg sequencing using a foldable (directions for foldable are included)

-It's Raining Sentences! Sentence and Not a Sentence sort with a writing extension

-Hoopping Homphones - matching homophones (either concentration game or Read the Room) with a Shutter Foldable (directions for foldable included)

-Splash into Spring - 3-letter Blend word sort

-Bugged-Out Sentences - Sentence Scrambler

 

Math Centers include:

-WHOOOO Knows how to Subtract? - Uses a kinesthetic game, using place value chips - subtraction is both regrouping and not regrouping.

-Leapin' Numbers! - A game using one before and one after...uses both tens and hundreds

Ok, I wanted to tell you...

One of my FAVORITE things to eat for dinner is....

Breakfast.

Yes!!

So tonight, I made bacon and pancakes.

But I don't just make ANY ole pancakes from a box mix - oh no!

Mine were (from scratch) Lemon pancakes with a Fresh Strawberry topping that I made on the stove...

Oh yeah, baby!!

Where do I get my recipe for that?? 

Well, that one I made up..lol!!

BUT, I use my little booklet I got from Food Network magazine a LONG time ago...it has 50 recipes!!

Sewing skills, A.R. pack, and Goof Off

It has been great fun looking at all your Seuss celebrating pictures! And how cool is it that Tara shares his birthday?! (make sure you go say Happy Birthday to her!)

I actually have like 2 weeks worth of Seuss lessons, so be prepared...lol...don't worry, I will post non- Seuss stuff too :)

I had my kids make bookmarks, but I wanted to add in some fun skills...like sewing...yeah, I know. But you'd be surprised at how HARD this was...especially for some of my most artsy kids! I bought the plastic yarn needles and they used those to sew the yarn through the holes in their bookmarks. OH, p.s...these are the bookmarks from Melissa that she made..I glued them to black paper and laminated them.

See the SERIOUS concentration?? I love it! ha!

Also, remember when I was looking for a pen pal in a different state?? Well, I got a response from a different COUNTRY!!  LOOK at where we're sending our letters too!!

Habitats, Sneetches, and THANK YOU!

OMGosh!! I MISS my hours in my day to blog stalk! lol...and create!

I have so many ideas swimming in my head, but I can't get them out fast enough!!

Well, today, I conjured up this cute little activity - so I had to come home and pretty it up for y'all!

It's about animals' habitiats...and using inferencing skills! A 2-for-1 in my book :)

The kids had really fun.

They had to match animals with their habitats using clues, then we brainstormed other animals that they could create their own Habitat For Sale ad

This mini-unit is great for reviewing habitats. It includes habitats from the rainforest, arctic, and more! Students read the clues on the cards to match the habitat that is for sale to the animal that would live there. There are color matching cards, b/w student printables, graphic organizers (Thinking Maps) to create their own sale ad, and the final product sale ad. My students had a great time with this activity!

NEW TN store and the Lorax and pinning

Good Morning!

So, I have decided to open up my TN store....it has come to my attention that some prefer TN over TpT (I've gotten a few emails), so you now have both to choose from. 

I am  slowly uploading all my products to TN. Thankfully, there isn't that many! lol

I was able to finish my Roll a Lorax pack last night....it's so cute! hehe I can't wait to use it with my kiddos. I showed it to my 5th grade teacher friend and she said it'd be cute for her kids too!

This Roll a Lorax can be used from Kinder and up!

Teacher's Notebook

In case you're wondering why all of my stuff has so many different levels in it, it's because of my clientele in my school. We are a SEVERE Title I school - like 86% on Free and Reduced lunch. A lot of my kids are below grade level, but I always have some that should be in the GSP classes too, so I like to create activities that will be a slight challenge for my BGL and OGL kids, but I also need something that'll challenge my 4-5 AGL kids...And since I've taught every grade from 2-5, I kind of know what they need to know for the next year...and I'm getting better at knowing 1st grade for my BGL kids (most of what I'm learning is coming from y'all!! So, thanks!).
