This week is my {Hands On Phonics Notebook}!

It has titles for all kinds of phonics rules...






In the dictionary section, we would write all kinds of words; spelling, sight, and "how do you spell" words. I wouldn't let them ask me how to spell a word unless they had their notebook open and ready for me to write it down.


There is also a category section, for months, holidays, and other categories.

I teach 2nd. The number of words the kids work on vary from week to week depending on whole group lessons and assessments given.

In 3rd grade, we aim to have 10 new words and at least 5-10 review words.

I teach second grade. They have 10 words to study and use for homework. They have another 10 that follow the same pattern for the week that we practice in class. They also have 5 high frequency words.

I teach second and over the past few years we have been using 15 words plus 2 bonus. This year I am trying to decide between dropping spelling tests and using Words their Way or using WTW with only 10 words each week.

We use Saxon phonics and it has 12 words a week. I teach first grade. I loooove your blog!

I use Words Their Way in second grade so they have 20-25 words with 2-4 patterns that they focus on.

We follow the Wilson Fundations spelling program, and we typically have 20 words each week on our spelling tests in 3rd grade. This looks like a great addition to our word work!

We follow Words Their Way and have 10-15 words a week. I teach 2nd grade. This would be a great addition!

Love this product! My students take such pride in setting up their notebooks and adding word information that we study to it.

By any chance, did you update the product? I don't remember the "Base Word" and "Rules for Y" but those are great additions.

We do Words their Way in our first grade classes. They have 10 words that they have to spell for their assessment each week and they have 3 sight words that are theirs.

I love notebooks. I started using them last year. I teach second grade and he have 12 spelling words that follow the phonics pattern for that week and then 3 challenge words.

When I taught 2nd we had 10 per week. I haven't done weekly spelling words in K but have done sight word practice.

I homeschool, but for first grade last year, we did 10 phonics words and 4 sight words. We'll probably stick with the same number for second grade too!

I teach 2nd grade and we have 12 spelling and 5 sight words each week. We use CC Reading Street so we use the words and skills that go with each story! I would love to incorporate your phonics notebook! It looks awesome!

I have anywhere from 10-20 spelling words a week. It just depends, as I am a special education teacher and teach multiple grade levels.

Typically we do 12-15 words comprising spelling and high frequency words. I teacher 1st and 2nd graders.
